DESCRIPTION:From the Office of Councilman Kettle: \nRight now\, the Office of Planning and Community Development is putting together four specific subarea plans: the Downtown Regional Plan\, the Northgate plan\, and two Manufacturing-Industrial Center plans. All of these plans are intended to come to Council to be voted on in late summer-early fall\, and you can sign up here for OPCD updates. \nIn the meantime\, my office will be hosting several Comprehensive Plan-specific office hours in March and April. \nThese office hours will follow our standard rules: sign in\, each speaker / group gets 10-15 minutes (depending on how many people have signed up)\, and will be first come\, first serve. \nYou can use my Instagram or Facebook to track updates.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at 6pm on March 19th to see some intrepid 5th graders tackle the issue of plastic pollution!  Come learn about microplastics\, things we can do to reduce them and enjoy a (near) zero waste chocolate chip cookie with Beyond Plastics Greater Seattle’s Chapter lead\, and Magnolia’s own Cindy Arasim! \nTime: ~1:12 mins\, + optional Q&A afterwards \n  \nThe Story\nMicroplastic Madness is the story of 56 fifth graders from P.S. 15 in Red Hook\, Brooklyn – living on the frontline of the climate crisis – whose actions on plastic pollution morph into extraordinary leadership and scalable victories.   \nWith stop-motion animation\, heartfelt kid commentary\, and interviews of experts and renowned scientists who are engaged in the most cutting edge research on the harmful effects of microplastics\, this alarming\, yet charming narrative\, conveys an urgent message in user-friendly terms.  \nThese eleven year olds dive deep into the root causes of plastic pollution.  Taking on the roles of citizen scientists and community advocates\, they collect local data\,  lead community outreach\, and use their own local data to inform policy by testifying and rallying at City Hall. Then they turned their focus back to school\,  taking action in their cafeteria to eliminate all single-use plastic! \nCreated to inspire kids\, teachers and policy makers alike\, this is the spark needed to grow a youth-led Plastic Free Future movement in schools across the world! \nHope you can join us to kick off Earth Month in Magnolia!
